DunsmuirLocal Life

This is the city with no stop lights, no traffic meters, no smog, and no worries. The city of Dunsmuir never fails to take you back to a simpler time.

Dunsmuir Railway

Dunsmuir was founded around a small railroad. This railroad is deeply embedded into the fabric and history of the town and its people. The Railway is still fully functioning today and one of the main thorough fares of town looks down upon it with its rich, green, forestry abounding and the river flanking it to the east side. It makes for a wonderful afternoon stroll or perhaps you might like to have a sip of coffee at the local Brown Trout Cafe as you watch the trains go by.

Dunsmuir City Pool

The Dunsmuir City Pool is a favorite of visitors and locals alike. The pool has a slide and a diving board, with a classic little frostie right next to it. The city park lies just a bit down the road. There is nothing like a dip in the Dunsmuir Pool after a stroll in the park on a warm day in Dunsmuir.

The Sacramento River

Dunsmuir has the beautiful Sacramento River flowing right in the heart of the town. There is a nice two block stroll from the cottage to riverside access. The river is ice cold, just ask my kids. They love to float down the river every summer despite the near snow like temperature of the water. The river is great for fishing and we almost always catch our limit every time we go. The river is also always a relaxing place to throw down a blanket, pack a picnic, pick blackberries if your visit is in August or September and watch the beauty of nature slowly run on by. Time really does slow down in Dunsmuir. Remember, you are free to use any items in the cottage such as picnic baskets, thermoses, ice chests or fishing poles as long as they are cared for and returned. You can purchase a yearlong fishing license at our local Dunsmuir Hardware or a day pass for only $10.00. When you stay at our cottage I have included directions to our secret fishing holes and a "Must Do" "Must See" and "Must Eat At" guide while in the area.
